Les Croquers

Really the whole week was about Le Croque Chou, our favourite restaurant anywhere, even more than the Manoir au Quat' Saisons or Le Gavroche.  So finally on Thursday evening the time had come, we put on our gladrags and headed for Verquières, between St Remy de Provence and Avignon.
We received a really warm welcome from Monique, Dan and their son Seb who is the chef, and what a chef!

Champagne with our canapes of home made crispy bread with pig's trotters on which we spread homemade black tapanade.  Then we had an amuse bouche of seafood terrine.  Starter was trio of shellfish and seafood, cod fillet, prawns and oyster in a delicious sauce.  Main course of baby goat, all the parts of it boned, rolled and stuffed.  It doesn't sound very enticing the way I describe it, but perhaps that's why I don't write menus for a living!  A delicate cheese course and then a trio of lemon puds, a lemon meringue cake, lemon sorbet and a lemon bombe of meringue with a heavenly filling and mine came with a birthday candle too.  We had different wines with each course, all chosen by Dan and all superb.  Thr restaurant is doing well and I'm so glad for them; lovely people, great atmosphere and sublime cooking.  Surely an étoile Michelin must come their way soon?
